History of the Embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: 

o    The Republic of the Philippines recognized the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on November 15, 1946 and established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom on October 20, 1969.

o    The first Philippine Mission was opened in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on December 23, 1973.

o    By Royal Decree of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud on September 29, 1983, all diplomatic missions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be moved from Jeddah to Riyadh. The Royal Decree enjoined all diplomatic missions to construct their respective chanceries and residences in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh within two years from the transfer.

o    Acquisition of the land was formalized when the Land Acquisition Agreement was signed by the governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Shaikh, Director-General of Arriyadh Development Authority and the Republic of the Philippines represented by H.E. Mauyag Mohd. Tamano, Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom on April 10, 1985.

o    The Philippine Embassy was finally transferred to Riyadh, the Capital City of Saudi Arabia and seat of all diplomatic missions in the Kingdom in July 1985. The Chancery was temporarily located at the King Fahd Quarter opposite the Al-Owais Market while waiting for the construction and completion of the new Chancery at the Diplomatic Quarter. Ambassador Tamano served as Philippine Ambassador at that time until October 15, 1989 when Ambassador Abraham Rasul succeeded him as the new Philippine Envoy.

o    Ambassador Abraham Rasul presented his letters of credence to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud on December 4, 1989.

o    His Excellency President Fidel V. Ramos came to Riyadh on a working visit on October 17, 1994 and laid the cornerstone which marked the commencement of the construction of the Embassy buildings. 

  •            The new Chancery was inaugurated on June 12, 1996 that coincided with the 98th Anniversary of the Declaration of     Philippine Independence under the administration of His Excellency Romulo M. Espaldon. 
  •                  H.E. Rafael E. Seguis succeeded Ambassador Espaldon in July 1999.
  •             On July 21, 2002, His Excellency Bahnarim A. Guinomla arrived in the Kingdom and succeeded Ambassador Seguis as the new Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
  •             On December 19, 2006, His Excellency Antonio P. Villamor arrived and succeeded Ambassador Guinomla as the new Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Yemen.
  •             On 30 September 2010, H.E. Ambassador Antonio Villamor ended his tour of duty, and Mr. Ezzedin Tago was designated as Charge d'Affaires a.i. until the arrival of a new Ambassador.
